Role: Our Customer Advisors must be approachable, knowledgeable and helpful. Previous Retail experience is preferred, but not essential. We will consider applicants that don't have previous retail experience, as long as they can show a strong work ethic, good attitude and initiative. As the face of the company, good service and experience begins and ends with you.

This role is for 3 months only based at our Croydon store Mid June-Early September. We are a school uniform and sportswear specialist that has been in business since 1863. Summer is our busiest time of the year and we are looking for Customer Advisors to aid in the busy back to school period.

This role has flexible hours and will vary week to week, the amount of days/hours required will fluctuate. The stores opening hours are 9:30am-5:30pm Monday-Saturday. We are always CLOSED on Sundays. If working a Wednesday you may need to start at 9am, as this is normally used for training. You will work a variety of days and hours, but Saturdays may be required most as this is our busiest day of trade. Please note you will accumulate holiday leave while you work for us, but you are expected to not take it as leave. Instead you will be paid for the days you accrue in holiday leave, when you finish. The August bank holiday everyone will most likely be expected to work, as it is one of our busiest days of trade of the year.

Examples of Duties & Expectations:

  • Shop floor customer service to help customers through their purchasing process, you will need to become knowledgeable in all the schools we supply (training is provided).
  • Stock replenishment, all our stock is in the one premise but multiple units.
  • Warehouse duties - tidying up as you take stock, putting stock back where it should be.
  • Administrative duties - keeping an eye on paperwork that shop floor needs and asking the office for more as needed.
  • Keeping the shopfloor clean and tidy
  • Good organisational and time management skills
  • Polite, friendly and welcoming manner
  • Good telephone manner - all shop floor staff are expected to answer the phone for customer queries.
  • Good communicator and well spoken English - we welcome applicants of all backgrounds but you must be able to clearly communicate with customers in English. Being able to speak multiple languages is always a plus, as we have customers from all backgrounds.
  • Self motivated, driven and enthusiastic
  • Team player
  • Able to put transactions through the till and deal with change (training is provided for our till system)
  • Helping with adhoc duties as needed (there is no such thing as 'that's not my job' at Hewitts, we all pitch in)
  • Going out to school sellings and assisting parents with their purchases - This can be outside shop hours (like a pop up shop)

This job is fast paced and hectic at times, but you can make a lot of close friends in a short period of time. As we all have to work together to succeed.

If you think this is the right fit for you, then please apply with your CV and we'd love to hear from you.

While this is a good fit generally for students or school leavers, we welcome application from all ages, genders, sexual orientations and backgrounds.

Hewitts is an equal opportunities employer.

Our youngest employee is currently 25 and our oldest is over 70, age is but a number!

Website Assistant - 1 1/2 Months

Job description

Role: Our Website Assistants must be knowledgeable, focused and driven to succeed. Previous Retail experience is preferred, but not essential. We will consider applicants that don't have previous retail experience, as long as they can show a strong work ethic, good attitude and initiative. Our website launched back in 2015 and has gone from strength to strength. This means we need a bit of extra help during busy periods.

This role is for 1 & 1/2 Months only based at our Croydon store Late July-Early September. We are a school uniform and sportswear specialist that has been in business since 1863. Summer is our busiest time of the year and we are looking for Website Assistants to aid in the busy back to school period.

You will work a variety of days and hours every week, but more may be needed as the start of school approaches.

  • Picking stock from warehouses, efficiently, accurately and in a timely manner (training is provided to learn where specific stock is kept and which school is which).
  • Possibly processing orders through the till, depending on your specific job in the team. Including scanning the items, checking the total, detagging and bagging/boxing up the order (training is provided).
  • You may also need to do exchanges and refunds, getting the replacement stock and putting it through the till (training is provided).
  • Replenishment of carrier bags for web orders and clearing out hangers into the wendy house.
  • Warehouse duties - tidying up as you take stock, putting stock back where it should be.
  • Keeping the shopfloor clean and tidy as you pick
  • Good organisational and time management skills
  • Polite, friendly and a team player (web team is a very close knit unit, who must work together to get orders done)
  • Good telephone manner - you may need to call customers if there is a query with their order, or answer the phone for customer queries if we are very busy.
  • Good communicator and well spoken English - we welcome applicants of all backgrounds but you must be able to clearly communicate with customers and staff members in English. Being able to speak multiple languages is always a plus, as we have customers from all backgrounds.
  • Self motivated, driven and enthusiastic
  • Helping with adhoc duties as needed (there is no such thing as 'that's not my job' at Hewitts, we all pitch in)

There are a lot of stairs, and no elevators are Hewitts. So you must feel you are physically fit enough to do the role justice.

The web team are located at the top of the store, so you will need to go up and down the stairs to pick orders multiple times a day.
